Dumfries and Galloway
Capability Scotland supports disabled adults, from across the region, to access employment, education and leisure opportunities in their local communities.

Capability Scotland staff are available to support disabled adults between 16 and 65 from throughout the Dumfries and Galloway area.  This innovative, flexible support is designed around the individual needs of each person we work with and aims to help them achieve their personal outcomes.

Dumfries and Galloway Integrated Service (Physical Disability Service)
The service works with individuals and groups throughout Dumfries and Galloway to facilitate employment, education, training, volunteering and leisure opportunities for people within their own communities.
Who is it for?
Adults between the ages of 16 and 65 who have a physical disability
What we can provide?
Services include:
• Specialist advice, information, assessment and facilitation
• One to one and group facilitation to enable physically disabled people to identify and work towards personal goals to enhance and improve social inclusion
• Working with people with physical disabilities in identifying existing opportunities in their local communities such as employment, education, training, volunteer opportunities and leisure
• Maintain a database to signpost users on to other specialist resources, such as information on educational courses, available locally
• Working with a range of other agencies and individuals to develop activities in relation to individual aspirations, for example finding or changing employment
• Using a multi-agency approach with, for example, Dumfries and Galloway Council and NHS Dumfries and Galloway, to deliver appropriate support
The service does not provide personal care on a regular or planned basis.  People can be referred to the service by other agencies, or they can self refer.

Specific Covid 19 Support

Coronavirus (Covid-19) Update: 24 March 2020

24 March 2020

Capability Scotland is working hard in the difficult times we face to continue to deliver excellent care and support for disabled people across Scotland. Like all of us, we are facing a continually changing landscape. Our Executive Team express their utter admiration for the way our staff have responded to the Coronavirus situation.

Our Staff

The Government has recognised our care staff as 'key workers' who will continue to deliver their critical work. We are pleased with the support from organisations across Scotland, allowing our care staff to access supermarkets and other services at bespoke times to ensure that they can get the essential supplies they need.

Many who know the care sector well will know that some of our work involves the use of personal protection equipment (PPE) and this is something we have always taken seriously. Working closely with the NHS National Services, our teams have access to supplies of protective equipment to ensure that both our staff and customers are suitably protected from the transmission of the Covid-19 virus. Combined with our already robust infection control procedures, we are currently able to advise that all of our customers are safe and well. We're keen to ensure our supplies of protective equipment remain in good stock, so whilst the NHS NSS are working as fast as they can, we would gratefully receive any donations of masks, aprons, or gloves that can be provided from any organisation who may not require them just now.

Office Closures & Post

All of our administrative bases are now closed until further notice. In particular, our offices in Bath Street (Glasgow) and Haymarket (Edinburgh) are fully closed. Any post that is sent to our Bath Street office will not be received. We would strongly encourage any letters or communications to be sent through email (individual contact details can be received by emailing capability@capability-scotland.org.uk). However, if your request is urgent or cannot be done electronically, our Haymarket office will receive post once a week:

Our business support and office staff are still working as normal, but are doing so from home, for the foreseeable future. Any ongoing business or contact will still continue, and we would encourage you to get in touch through email, phone call, or even video conferencing if they can help in any way.

Our Schools

Both Stanmore House and Corseford Schools are now closed, with Stanmore Residential remaining open and supporting children. Parents and guardians should get in touch if they have any questions or queries.

Lastly, please do stay updated on our social media channels, where we are encouraging positivity, sharing stories and thanks, to all of our community.
