We have 4 roles available across Dumfries and Galloway, with our Roads Depots being in Dumfries, Lockerbie, Annan, Castle Douglas, Newton Stewart and Stranraer.

Then a Roads Skilled Operative Apprenticeship with Dumfries and Galloway Council could be for you!

Dumfries and Galloway Council is one of the largest roads network in Scotland with over 4500 km of carriageway, footways and cycleways.

As a Roads Skilled Operative Apprentice in the Roads Service you will be actively involved in ensuring that this vital asset is maintained to ensure the network operates efficiently.

You will be involved in a range of activities including maintenance, inspection and repair of carriageways and footways, bridges and structures, drainage and winter maintenance as well as working and supporting other Council Services looking after Parks, Open Spaces, Waste and Recycling.

We are offering an exciting opportunity for young people aged 24 and under who want to complete a Modern Apprenticeship in Roads to join our team.

The Apprenticeship is for 3 years and during this time you will complete your Apprenticeship Award with Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).

Successful applicants will get the chance to work alongside professional Roads Skilled Operatives and Technical staff and your Apprenticeship will include the opportunity to:

• Access high quality training opportunities (including the potential to achieve your driving/HGV licence dependant on age/eligibility criteria)

• Gain qualifications and Continued Personal Development (CPD)
• Knowledge and Skills Development
• 1:1 support

These posts are fixed term for three years initially.
