Year of Young People Support Worker (Temporary)

An exciting opportunity exists for a young person aged 16-19 to join the Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Youth Work service to work on 2018 Year of Young People across the region. This post is for 36 hours per week and funded to 31st March 2019. This post may be suitable for secondment. Agreement from your line manager must be sought before applying for this post.

This post will see the person working within our Year of Young People team across Dumfries & Galloway to deliver exciting new projects for young people as part of the Scottish Government themed Year of Young People.

2018 is Scotland’s Year of Young People and within Dumfries & Galloway we have an exciting plan of activities, events and programmes for young people to take part in across the region. This post will be involved in delivering this exciting programme for young people aged 8-26. Full details of the Year of Young People plan for Dumfries & Galloway can be found at www.yoypdg.co.uk

The post will involve support to activities relating to Year of Young People across Dumfries & Galloway, and will include dealing with administration, overseeing of our resources and activities and delivering youth work opportunities to young people. The post will also assist in the development, promotion and publicising of activities and events to young people and other youth organisations within the Area.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative and award winning youth work team to deliver a range of informal learning programmes across the region, and work with people who are passionate and committed to young people.

In order to be eligible, applicants must be aged between 16 to 19 years old on starting the post.

The post will require evening and weekend work on a weekly basis, for which payment is included in the salary offered. The post will be working with young people within Dumfries & Galloway.

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
