Kickstart Youth worker Advert

This role involves you assisting the Community and Learning Development workers in the planning, development and delivery of youth provision, in response to the local needs of young people and the Children, Young People and Lifelong Learning Workplan.

The duties involve evening and weekend work, and you working directly with young people to promote and develop a young person led curriculum which maximises opportunities for social and personal development.

Applicants should be educated to higher level or equivalent, including English, and be willing to work towards the achievement of national and locally recognised qualifications. 

You should have experience of working with young people, be a team player, willing to gain understanding of current youth work practice and be motived and able to deliver activities in informal settings.  You must possess good communication skills, knowledge of issues affecting young people and be able to relate and support young people. A current driving licence is desirable.

In this role you will be supported on a 1:1 basis and gain valuable work experience, develop your knowledge and skills and work towards the achievement of a professional development award in Youth Work (SQA accredited). 

Employability support will also be provided by an Employment Key Worker within Dumfries & Galloway Council.  This will include assistance to:

           look for long-term work, including career advice and setting goals

           develop your curriculum vitae (CV) and interview preparations

           developing your skills in the workplace

           accessing the Work Based Skills Award (SQA accredited) where appropriate

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.  Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.

Insert Salary Range: Scottish Living Wage (currently £9.34 per hour)

Insert Hours per week: 36 (normally Wednesday to Sunday)

Insert Weeks per year: 52 weeks per year
