Modern Apprenticeships help employers to develop their workforce by training new staff, and up-skilling existing employees. For individuals, an MA is a job which lets them earn a wage and gain an industry-recognised qualification.

Dumfries & Galloway College can support new starts or existing employees who need training or professional development to upgrade their skills.

How it works for your "employer"
When you take on a new employee, they might not have all the skills you need right now. Similarly, a current employee might need new skills to take on a different role. Modern Apprentices get the skills they need while working and being trained by the employer to industry standards.

As a recognised training provider, Dumfries & Galloway College helps them by assessing the competency and skills they have learned in the work place to gain a nationally recognised and accepted qualification. Once they have completed all necessary work based knowledge and tests, they will be a real asset to your business and your future workforce.

How it works for you “The Modern Apprentice”
Our assessor’s will visit you in your workplace to assess your work based knowledge and progression ensuring you are working towards industry standards. We work with you and your employer using a variety of methods which could include:
• Observations
• On-Line Exams
• Photographs
• Professional discussions
• Witness testimony
• Written or on-line portfolios

Most Modern Apprenticeships last between 1-4 years and this allows for structured learning as your own skills, knowledge and confidence grows. You will continue to earn a wage whilst you gain your qualification. In some cases an element of learning is completed within Dumfries &Galloway College via:
• A one day course (Food Hygiene & Health and Safety)
• 4 day intense course (Intermediate Food Hygiene)
• Day release 1-3 days per week
• Block release.
