Theatre Royal Dumfries provides both Volunteering opportunities and also the Dumfries Arts Award Programme.


There are a range of possibilities for volunteering with the theatre that include:

Acting | Directing l Make up | Hair | Wardrobe/costume l Set design | Set construction | Stage management | Props and décor | Prompting l Light design, rigging & operation | Sound design and operation i Backstage crew l Marketing | Heritage/Archive | Admin/Bookkeeping l Front of House | Bar l Junior group workshops (Age 8+) | Adult acting workshops | Script in hand readings

The Guild of Players Youth Theatre is an exciting phase of development and we are recruiting volunteers with an interest in supporting our youth members either in a creative role or chaperone capacity. There is also the possibility of a mixture of the two positions.

Those interested are able to volunteer weekly for one or all of the groups or monthly depending on their schedule and what they can commit to.

The Theatre Royal is a registered Arts Award Centre. Arts Award’s inclusive qualifications support young people up to the age of 25 to develop artists and arts leaders.  

Additional to delivering the Arts Award qualification, the Dumfries Arts Award Programme provides personalised support and work experience training opportunities to young people aged 16-26 with additional support needs.
